It’s crazy how many women I know that are all due right about now (including me!). With my baby’s arrival just weeks away, I certainly have baby gear on my mind! And of course it is a priority to make sure I am creating a healthy and safe nursery for my new little one.
I went through the process of creating a non-toxic nursery for my son four years ago, and spent months researching all the natural baby products I needed for a healthy and safe nursery. It was exhausting!
Since I know how incredibly time-consuming and daunting researching for a safe and healthy nursery is, I figured I would share with you all my favorite design strategies and natural baby products, and hopefully ease the burden for any new or expecting moms out there.
Creating A Healthy Nursery and Home
To do this, I am going to direct you to a podcast interview I recently did with Kristy Rodriguez from Pure Nurture. Through Pure Nurture, Kristy focuses on a holistic, mind-body approach to helping moms and moms-to-be feel their best through pregnancy and beyond.
I loved talking with Kristy about creating a healthy nursery and healthy home for new babies and families. There is so much useful info to be able to apply to your home in preparation for your new babe. We cover everything from indoor toxins and decluttering your home to the healthiest design options for the nursery. Listen Here.
I provided links to some of my favorite natural baby products below. Some of these links are affiliate links, meaning, at no additional cost to you, I will earn a commission if you click through and make a purchase.
My Favorite Natural baby products
Non-Toxic Paint For Nurseries:
Most new nurseries start with a fresh coat of paint. But before you begin, make sure you are choosing the safest paint for you and your little one. It is especially important to choose non-toxic paints for the walls because walls cover the most surface area in the room. This means that whatever you apply to the walls will have a big impact on the air quality of the space.
Here are my favorite brands:
Wall Paint:
Furniture:
Non-Toxic Baby Furniture:
Cribs:
This crib is made with sustainably sourced solid wood and non-toxic finishes. It is GreenGuard Gold certified. Plus it has a great, modern look.
This is a good inexpensive option. The crib is made of solid wood and has no finish. This means that there are no chemicals added to the crib. You can either leave it as is or paint it with a non-toxic paint to make it any color you want.
Non-Toxic Crib Mattresses:
Typical mattresses have chemical flame retardants. To avoid having your baby sleep on these chemicals, opt for mattresses made of organic cotton, natural latex and wool. Wool makes the mattresses naturally flame retardant, so no chemicals need to be added. Below are my favorite options.
Naturpedic Classic Crib Mattress:
This is the mattress we used for Crosby. It has held up so well we’ll be using it for the new baby too.
This company puts a priority on green AND healthy living. All of their products are both eco-friendly and non-toxic, for a healthier planet and a healthier you!
Other Helpful Non-Toxic Baby Gear:
Naturpedic Organic Changing Pad
I loved this tub for our small house. It is collapsible and easily tucks away when not in use.
Pickle and Pumpkin Organic Crib Sheets:
These crib sheets are adorable and have held up quite well over the past four years! Many other organic cotton crib sheets I purchased were very thin and ripped easily. Not these sheets! They are durable.
This is a new product for us this time around. While it hasn’t been tested by baby yet, I love it! It’s made of natural wood (no added formaldehyde!) and folds up to save space when not in use.
Final Thoughts:
Creating a safe, natural and healthy nursery is incredibly important for your new little one. Start by listening to my podcast interview with Kristy at Pure Nurture for inspiration for your own healthy nursery.
